Avalanche Saftey Emitter

Camdata was contracted to design a low cost device, which transmits on a standard frequency if a skier is caught in an avalanche.  The project entailed understanding the needs of the skier and the sales distributional channel, ensuring the product would adhere to the 457kHz international standard Avalanche Safety Emitter Internaland designing long life battery-powered electronics to transmit on that frequency, provided a simple operator interface, find low cost packaging for the first 1000 off batch and get to market in time for the Australian ski season.  The product was then re-engineered to reduce the size and cost for Northern hemisphere ski season.  Skills included understanding the market, low power RF electronics, packaging, water ingress and shock protection and assisting with volume manufacture.  The customer’s product website is:
